Please show some heart versus the Chiefs this week

Last week’s blog was fitting for the Raiders’ performance. Although the Raiders only lost by a score, they never really felt in control.

Silver and Black roamed all over SoFi but it wasn’t enough for the team to deliver. The scary part is, this team seems to be regressing and moving in the wrong direction.

Yes, Adams is gone but he has been hurt all year anyways. Now, the team needs a WR, QB and a RB too. This team needs to find answers quick as the Chiefs come to town.

Kansas City has looked like its best version of itself. Kareem Hunt has had a resurgance. The team just traded for DeAndre Hopkins. He and Travis Kelce have both torn up the Raiders in the past. Xavier Worthy is lightning quick. This is not the same team the Raiders beat last year.

Don’t forget Kansas City fields a fast defense that is stout against the run. The Raiders need Zamir White to look as good as he did last year when they beat they Chiefs. Alexander Mattison has been good for some chunk plays, including pass receptions out of the backfield.

Vegas also needs to sprinkle in some trick plays. Jakobi Meyers is back this week. He and Tre Turner can turn trick plays into explosive gains.

Defensively, the Raiders have to pressure Mahomes. Their DBs have actually been solid this year. If they can find a way to force Patrick Mahomes into a mistake, they have a chance.

Again, expect the Chiefs to try and wear the Raiders down with the run. They’ll try to convert on big plays too.

The Raiders don’t need to re-invent the wheel this week. They need to control the clock with the run game and keep the Chiefs defense off the field. They need to force turnovers and get home to the quarterback. Vegas needs to convert big plays and stay discipline against big plays from the Chiefs.

Either way, the Raiders just need to play with some heart. If they can rebound this week, it looks good on Antonio Pierce. However, another loss means they’ve dropped a game to the entire division. And they lost two additional LA home games. None of that is great for his job stability. A win here gives them at least some hope for .500. Stop the bleeding and Just Win Baby!

Recaping the Donkeys and Keys to Beating the Steelers

The Raiders got smoked last week and gave up their first lost to the Broncos since moving to Las Vegas. Denver pretty much controled the game the entire time. Now, they jump ahead of .500 and hold a valuable lead over the Raiders in the AFC West.

Gardner Minshew threw two interceptions. He got yanked for Aidan O’Connell. The Broncos defense looked elite with Riley Moss and Patrick Surtain both getting picks.

Brock Bowers was the most reliable target and caught a touchdown. Jakobi Meyers was by far the best receiver on the outside with Davante Adams out.

Reports indicate Adams could play for Vegas again as soon as his hamstring gets right. Either way, a trade probably still makes sense for both sides.

Otherwise, the Raiders did do so much on the ground. Ameer Abdullah popped off for some bursts but Alexander Mattison was largely ineffective as the starting runner.

Maxx Crosby ended up playing and registered two sacks. Christian Wilkins also got his first solo sack of the year. Unfortunately, Wilkins is now hurt and slated to miss the year. That’s a huge loss given all the money they spent on him in the offseason. He really helped the whole defense. Now, John Jenkins and Adam Butler need to step up again. Vegas needs Tyree Wilson to develop ASAP as well.

Regardless, Bo Nix still played one of his best games as a pro. Nix threw two TDs, over 200 yards and only had 8 incompletions. The Raiders needed to capitalize on a Nix mistake but it never came. Denver also got over 100 scrimmage yards from Javonte Williams. He averaged nearly 5 yards-per-carry on the ground too.

Now, they play a tough Pittsburgh team off two tight losses. The Steelers narrowly lost to the Dallas Cowboys last week. Rico Dowdle popped off for 87 rushing yards while Dak Prescott threw for over 300 passing yards. It really could have gotten uglier if the Steelers did not get two interceptions and a couple of sacks.

Offensively, Justin Fields was again the team’s biggest playmaker. Najee Harris barely averaged three yards-per-carry. Fields rushed for 27 yards and threw two touchdowns, despite only throwing for 131 yards. Look for him to try and find George Pickens early and often. Pickens was held to just three catches last week.

The previous week, Pickens caught 7 balls for 113 yards. Fields put up over 50 rushing yards and 300 passing yards. He added three total touchdowns in that one-score loss too. That is still the kind of performance they want from them versus the Raider.

Otherwise, the Raiders have been a mixed bag at home. One week they looked great versus the Browns and the other week they got smacked by the Panthers. It is still unclear who this team is given how much drama and injuries have impacted the team.

A win over an old-school rival could help the Raiders steady the ship at 3-3. A loss here could also bury either team’s Wild Card hopes in a loaded AFC. Remember, Vegas lost in Pittsburgh last year. That ended up making a huge difference at the end of the year. Jimmy G, never recovered and the coaching staff never recovered from some bad calls.

Ultimately, the Raiders are tasked with both applying pressure to Fields and keeping contain. That will be harder without Wilkins pushing the pocket.

Pickens and Calvin Austin will challenge the Raiders’ speed outside. Both teams struggle to make big plays. The Raiders defense must play discipline and not give up anything easy. A turnover from either team could also be the difference.

The Raiders defense get s back Divine Deablo this week. He should help them defend the backfield against Harris. Harris might not be elite but he is big and strong. The Bay Area native loves going after a team he watched growing up.

These games are also always really close. Expect both teams to try and establish the run. Whatever unit can control the clock, will control the game. A big running play always means momentum in a physical game like this. An effective running game could keep the Raiders out of unmanageable third downs. That is a big key considering the struggles the team has at QB.

Again, if the Raiders can run the ball and play stout defense they have a shot. Big plays and/or turnovers will be the difference maker for both teams. The Raiders have a shot if they can establish their identity and fhe running game. Otherwise, they’re looking at falling to 2-4 with no QB and franchise receiver that wants out.

In some ways, this game could be our Super Bowl. Just Win Baby!

Here We Go Again + Keys to Beating the Broncos

Another year, another star player going scorched earth. Yes, the Raiders pulled out an impressive home victory after looking dead in the water. And Davante Adams reportedly wants a trade.

At this point, Raiders fans should be numb to dysfunction. This ain’t quite Randy Moss, Amari Cooper or Antonio Brown. It is dissapointing to hear Adamas wants out after he said he would retire in the Silver and Black.

Still, Raiders fans have to be realistic. Was this team really going to win a Super Bowl with Adams? Not with what they have at QB. Therefore, trading Adams makes sense. The Raiders proved this week they can win without him. Trading him feels even more right if the Raiders can get a first round pick. That is more than Stefon Diggs got traded for. Obviously, that ends the nice home narrative.

Trading Adams for more than a second round pick feels like an unlikely scenario though. Adams wants a trade to the Saints or Jets. He wants to play with his old QBs. However, neither of those teams really need a receiver. Dallas makes sense but their season seems to be going a different direction. Pittsburgh might also make a call, but their QB situation is only slightly better than the Raiders.

Head coach Antonio Pierce proved he didn’t lose the locker room yet. This drama is a red flag, considering Adams was in Pierce’s corner. More players could easily turn on Pierce if the losses keep coming.

Last week, the team found a way to make enough plays versus the Browns. Cleveland could’ve easily won that game but they didn’t. Alexander Mattison was really the ex-factor as he popped off some big runs. He will get the start with Zach Moss out. Mattison struggled as the starter in Minnesota last year. He may hurt against a tough Denver defense if the offense can’t stretch the field. The Broncos allowed the 12th most rushing yards this season.

Gardner Minshew needs to be more effective this week. He only completed 14 passes for 130 yards. Minshew threw no interceptions or touchdowns. He has to step his game up with Adams out for another game. Brock Bowers only caught a couple of passes. He needs a better week too. Denver allowed the third least passing yards this year.

The Raiders’ offensive line forfeited two sacks to Myles Garrett. That is expected with the injuries they had at tackle. Kolton Miller should be back this week, even if Thayer Munford is out. The pass rush should improve this week since the Broncos don’t have an elite rusher like Garrett.

Otherwise, we saw Brock Bowers get a rush attempt last week. Let’s see the Raiders sprinkle in some trickery with Tre Tucker and Jakobi Meyers. If the offense struggles to get them the ball downfield, try to get them the ball with some blockers in front.

Overall, this week should feature a defensive battle. Denver is off a win where they threw for less than 100 yards. They did find Courtland Sutton for a TD reception. His size could give the Raiders problems.

Vegas also needs to stop the run. Last week, both Jaleel McLaughlin and Javonte Williams averaged over 4.5 yards-per-carry. Ideally, they offer a blend of power and explosiveness. They combined for 123 rushing yards against a stout Jets defense.

The Raiders manufactured pass rush last week. Janarius Robinson and Christian Wilkins split a sack. Charles Snowden and Isaiah Pola-Mao got home too. Vegas needs similar contributions across the board this week.

Safety Trevon Moehrig came up big with an interception last week. It was one of Watson’s only mistakes in the entire game. The Raiders need more plays from their DBs this week. They also don’t want to make it easy with any blown coverages. Vegas almost gave up a huge passing play to Amari Cooper.

Denver fields a young QB who doesn’t take a lot of chances. The Raiders need to stay discipline rushing the passer. Apply pressure but don’t force Bo Nix into 8 rush attempts like they did Watson.

We will find out who the Raiders are this week. Will this offense find a spark with Adams out? Can Mattison claim the starting RB role with White out? Do they trade Adams or find a way to work it out? Are the Raiders the team that edged out the Ravens and Browns? Or are they the team that got outclassed by the Panthers and Chargers?

The Raiders need to establish the run and find ways to spread the ball around to a variety of play makers. They will need to nickel and dime this stingy Denver Defense. Corner Patrick Surtain has an edge on every Raiders receiver, with Adams out.

Defensively, the Raiders will again need to get creative to generate pass rush. Crosby leaves a crater on the defense, but Tyree Wilson needs to step up. Robinson and Snowden are great stories but we can only rely on them so much. Wilkins needs to dominate against the run and pass. All the Raiders need to tackle well against a slippery Denver backfield. Vegas needs to play physical versus an equally desperate AFC West rival.

A win here steadies the Raiders against all these distractions. Losing sets them back more in the standings and they lose leverage with Adams. They have a tough stretch of schedule before their bye week in a month.

Ultimately, the Raiders need to establish their identity against the Broncos. Denver has yet to beat the Vegas Raiders. There is no need to start now.

Last Week was a Joke but this Game versus the Browns is not

Last week was a total abomination. There is no reason to lose to a desperate Carolina Panthers team. I don’t care if Andy Dalton took a stroll back to his Bengals’ days. The head coach’s lack of accountability after did not help.

Tackling was an issue in the run game. The offense has yet to find any consistency outside of two quarters in Baltimore.

Talk about business decisions and effort. Aren’t these the same players that banged the table for AP? Jack Jones’ performance last year damn near got AP the job. Now, Jones is being called out for his effort?

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The only thing that adds up is that it keeps happening to us. Between the bad drafting and coaching, it looks like the Raiders are wasting the primes of Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams. Both will be out with injuries these week. The Raiders will also be down their starting tackle and some other key rotational pieces.

All in all, the Raiders will show their true identity this week. Are they the team that willed their way to a win over an underperforming Baltimore Ravens team? Are they the squad that got clipped by the Panthers? Will they bounce back and respond for Antonio Pierce?

Another blowout loss would be almost as bad as Detroit last season. Down his top players, AP is coaching for his job. I am not saying they will fire him after this game, but a 1-3 start does not sxream playoff contendee. Double that if the team loses and/or loses bad here. Contract obligations alone should keep Pierce safe. I doubt the Raiders pay another coach to not coach again this soon. However, they might if it gwrs much uglier.

Either way, I get on here every week and write the same keys in a different column. Vegas needs to push the ball, control the clock with the run game, create turnovers and sack the QB. This is Raiders’ football and the brand AP pitched to us. If they do play this style, they are tough to beat. Unfortunately, that style is also hard to play with many players hurt.

That is also the problem. The Raiders draft like they’re a single player away each year. They sign mid-level free agents like they have so much talent on their roster. Last week was a reminder that rosters in the NFL are closer than they appear. Vegas may need an actual full rebuild if they stumble any lower.

Luckily, the Browns have problems of their own. Tight end David Njoku will sit, which is a relief for the Raiders. Tackles Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills are both ouf. Starting guard Joel Bitonio, running back Jerome Ford and backup tackle Dawand Jones are all banged up. Even if they play, the Raiders defense should benefit from this hobbled attack.

Cleveland starts QB DeShaun Watson. Watson is again in off-field distractions. However, he does have Amari Cooper and Jerry Jeudy. Both players have had their success versus the Raiders’ in the past. It is hard to imagine a bounce-back game given how great Carolina’s receivers looked last week. Then again, maybe that is why coached called out the Vegas defense.

Defensively, Cleveland is not playing at the same level as last year. But they are still stout with Myles Garrett and Za’darius Smith on the edge. Former Raiders Quinton Jefferson and Shelby Harris play opposite Dalvin Tomlinson. The Raiders’ interior offensive line needs to step up. Zamir White has not done anything through three games.

In the secondary, the Browns have yet to register an interception. All five starters registered INTs last year. Not the case this year but that could change. Especially with Adams out, guys like Denzel Ward can take bigger chances.

At this point, the Raiders need to lean on Brock Bowers heavy. He is the biggest mismatch on the field. They also should look to get Jakobi Meyers or Tre Tucker going early with some trick plays.

Vegas canot afford any turnovers given the missing fire power. At home, they need to get their ground game in rythm.

Defensively, it all comes down to the defensive line. Vegas must apply pressure versus the banged up Cleveland line. Christian Wilkins needs to earn every bit of his huge contract with Crosby out. Perhaps we see him at end even. Tyree Wilson needs to play like a top-10 pick from a year ago. He needs to use his hands and find fhe ball.

Otherwise, Janarius Robinson has been a nice find. John Jenkins and Adam Butler were similar vet finds last year. Butler and Jenkins should be relied on even more versus the Browns. Cleveland is going to at least try and establish the run.

Finally, the Raiders secondary needs to find a way to make a play. They need to tackle well and play discipline. After last week, this unit needs to be perfecf.

In the end, the gameplan should not change much. Last week was a gutcheck moment. Will Vegas bounce back or will they fall further into losing habits? This is an even bigger game since it is against a better team, the Raiders are coming off a loss and this is a conference game.

Regardless, Vegas does need to show some heart at home. Just Win Baby!

Keys for starting a win streak

Vegas secured a somewhat surprising win on the road last week. Here is how they can win their home opener.

At some point in the fourth quarter, it seemed like the Raiders were not going to outlast the Ravens. The Ravens established the run with Derek Henry finishing the day with 84 rushing yards on 18 carries. Vegas starting runner Zamir White struggled again. He finished with only 24 yards on 9 carries.

The Silver and Black were efficient in the passing game. Gardner Mishnew completed 30-of-38 passes for 276 passing yards and one touchdown. Davante Adams finished with nine receptions for 110 receivng yards. Rookie toght end Brock Bowers finished with 98 receiving yards on 9 receptions. Mishnew completed passes to four other Raiders players too. It was about as solid of a game as one could expect in the air. Of course, minus the five sacks and one interception Mishnew registered in Baltimore.

Defensively, the Raiders held Lamar Jackson to 247 passing yards and 45 rushing yards. He found the end zone only once. Maxx Crosby found a way to register two sacks, despite the defensive group being banged up. The Raiders won with their defense on the field. This close game reminded me of the Seth Roberts games versus the Ravens last decade. Vegas found a way to win.

Now, they open the 2024 season against a Carolina Panthers team that made headlines for their decision to bench 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. Carolina got blown out by both the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints. They’ve scored 13 points combined over the first two games. The Panthers expect veteran QB Andy Dalton to help their fortunes.

Dalton is not known for his big arm. He can manage an offense and get the ball out. Receivers Adam Thielen and Diontae Johnson have had success in the league. Jonathan Mingo and Xavier Legett bring some youth out of the slot. Carolina also has versatility out of the backfield with Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders.

The Raiders need to play discipline and tackle well. They can not afford to give up any big plays to an offense that is desperate to find some rhythm. It could be a long day if Johnson converts a big play. Thielen or Sanders could also extend a short pass.

Otherwise, the Panthers invested in their interior line this offseason. They added guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis in the offseason. Neither Sanders or Hubbard have been effective runners. Young was also sacked six times over the first two games. Young is more mobile than Dalton at this point. The Raiders must get home to the QB.

Of course, Christian Wilkins, Tyree Wilson and Crosby are all listed as questionable for this game. Malcolm Koonce is done for the year. The Raiders need to create pressure to force Dalton into bad throws, no matter who plays d-line. He is a rythm passer.

Defensively, the Panthers are not the same unit as years prior. Defensive lineman Derrick Brown is on IR. They let Brian Burns and Yetur Gross-Matos walk. Carolina is left with veterans like Jadaveon Clowney and A’Shawn Robinson. Second-year edge DJ Johnson does bring some speed, which the Raiders tackles could struggle against.

In the secondary, the Raiders should have favorable matchups. Outside of Jaycee Horn at corner, Carolina fields a bunch of veterans. Safeties Xavier Woods and Jordan Fuller are proven starters. However, they lack the size and ball skills against the Raiders’ TEs. Troy Hill and Mike Jackson are the other corners. Jakobi Meyes and Tre Tucker bring the explosiveness to win those matchups. Adams size and physicality should also dominate this corner group. Mishnew needs to keep getting the ball out to his playmakers, efficiently.

Otherwise, the Raiders have yet to really establish their running game. All their key players should be good to go today. At home, Zamir White needs a big game. Ideally, White needs to help the team sit on a lead and control the clock.

Vegas should absolutely win this game if they can run the ball, throw the ball efficiently, play discipline defense, and pressure the quarterback. A 2-1 start would feed the Antonio Pierce bandwagon. It should give them some momentum headed into a physical matchup against the Cleveland Browns next week.

The Raiders cannot afford to overlook the Carolina Panthers. They cannot underestimate this winless team. You don’t want to play down to their level. You do want to continue to establishing your identity. Vegas needs to set the tone and showcase their identity as a playoff contender.

How the Raiders can bounce back in Baltimore

The Raiders looked underwhelming against the Chargers in Week One. They will need their best effort to not get blown out Today.

We all know Vegas’ struggles going to the East Coast on the road, historically. The Raiders also struggle to contain running QBs and TEs. Not only do the Ravens have one of the best playmakers at QB but they have two TEs with playmaking abilities. Isaiah Likely is a dynamic athlete and Mark Andrews is an institution. Lamar Jackson is one of the best in the business.

Plus, the Ravens were a toe away from beating the Chiefs on opening night. Baltimore will look for revenge in their Home Opener. The Raiders will have their hands full containing Jackson and the Ravens offense.

Last week, the Raiders run defense got worn down by JK Dobbins. Now, they will have their hands full with Derek Henry. Henry basically upgraded Dobbins, anyways. Baltimore receivers Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are good for big plays too. Baltimore also features a one-time Raider in Nelson Agholor.

Defensively, Baltimore brings playmakers at each level. Hybrid safety Kyle Hamilton and safety Marcus Williams are among the best on the back end. Corner Marlon Humphrey and linebacker Roquon Smith are also among the best at their positions. Humphrey and Adams should be a solid matchup while Smith, Hamilton and Williams can neutralize the Raiders’ TE duo of Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers.

Edge Odafe Oweh offers the speed and athleticism that the Raiders tackles can struggle against. Defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike also got paid after a breakout season last year. He should disrupt the Raiders’ pocket. Vegas allowed four sacks last week. That can not happen this week on the road again.

A lot of blame for last week’s loss fell on head coach Antonio Pierce and some of his questionable decisions. We will see how the Raiders bounce-back after a crushing loss to a rival. Reminder – Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby basically begged for this guy’s job. Pierce needs to be perfect in situational football.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew was actually pretty effecient for the Raiders last week. He completed 25 of 33 passes and Minshew utilized all kinds of weapons. Minshew needs a similar performance this week. He needs to find the end zone more than once, though. Last week, the passing game only scored on a short pass to Alexander Mattison. Minshew cannot turn the ball over versus a Ravens defense with playmakers at each level as well.

Ultimately, the Raiders won the time of possession battle last week despite never fully establishing their run game. Starting running back Zamir White finished with 44 rushing yards on 13 carries. The Raiders hyped up White as the new starter all offseason but they still used Mattison a ton. Vegas needs to count on White to control the clock. He needs to finish this week with a higher yards-per-carry so they can stay in-front of the chains.

The Ravens (head coach John Harbaugh) have a similar identity as the Chargers (head coach Jim Harbaugh) because their head coaches share a bloodline. Except, Baltimore’s offense is a lot more explosive and their defense is way more proven. The gameplan should not change much this week, but the Raiders need to execute better.

Vegas must establish the run game. White needs a much better week even if he is playing a better defense. Staying in front of the chains makes life easier for the pass game. It also keeps Lamar Jackson off the field.

The Silver and Black needs to push the ball downfield and find a way to convert a big play. Mishnew needs to be perfect. Don’t take four sacks and don’t throw any interceptions. It will also help if he can throw more than one long-ball.

Defensively, the Raiders need to tackle better. Henry is an even bigger bruiser than both the backs the Raiders faced last week. He can easily put a dagger in the Raiders if the Ravens get a big lead. He can also control the game early if the Raiders come out soft.

Jackson is one of the toughest QBs to sack. Not only is he dynamic running with the ball, but he gets the ball out quick. Ideally, the Raiders need more than one sack. That may not be possible versus Jackson. The Silver and Black will be down another edge rusher with Tyree Wilson out too. It will also help if Christian Wilkins and company can push the pocket from the inside.

Either way, the Raiders’ edges need to stay discipline and keep contain. Expect Baltimore to challenge Maxx Crosby by running the ball at him.

The Raiders secondary can do their part by limiting big plays. Forcing an interception or fumble is absolutely necessary given all the talent Baltimore has at the skill positions too. No fights or penalties this week please.

This game feels a bit overwhelming on the road. No excuses. The Raiders need to show up with energy early. Again, that is why they kept Pierce. Otherwise, the Silver and Black will be headed into their home opener desperate for their first win.

Nonetheless, Pierce can get his Raiders back on track if he can establish their identity. Run the ball, push the ball downfield, stay discipline on defense and take the ball away. A win over a contender like the Ravens could do a lot for the Raiders’ confidence.

Can the Raiders finally get it done for the LA fans?

A lot of Raiders fans will be in SoFi hoping to witness the Raiders get their first win in the Chargers’ home since the COVID season. Many Chargers fans will hope Jim Harbaugh’s new era starts with a victory over the Raiders.

The Raiders offseason was headlined by additions to the trenches. Vegas added a linemen in the second and third round of the NFL Draft. Third-rounder Dj Glaze is the backup right tackle. Second-rounder Jackson Powers-Johnson is the backup left guard after injuries most of the offseason. They also added veterans Andrus Peat and Cody Whitehair. Both bring guard and tackle experience. Whitehair is starting at guard and Peat is backup at left tackle. Vegas made these moves to win these physical division games.

Los Angeles also made moves along their offensive and defensive fronts. Defensively, the Chargers added Bud Dupree to an already deep defensive line. We know what Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack can do. They are explosive technicians. Tuli Tuipulotu should thrive with even more depth around them. Morgan Fox has thrived as a tackle/end since joining the Chargers. Defensive Poona Ford comes over from the Bills. He has experience in multiples schemes. Otito Ogbonnia enters his first season as a starter. They will need those big bodies versus the Raiders’ front.

Of course, the key matchup is whoever lines up against Mack. Mack balls every time he plays the Silver and Black. No six-sack game, please? Thayer Munford has been a mix-bag in camp. Munford struggles with speed so Mack and Dupree might hurt them.

Enter Zamir White. He showed enough to warrant being the unquestioned starter last year. Now he needs to make good versus an improved Chargers’ front-seven. Los Angeles added Denzel Perryman to improve the run defense. Daiyan Henley is going to be relied on more. That gives the Chargers a chance to play both the run and the pass out of of their base defense. White will get no favors versus this front.

That is where the Raiders receivers come in. The Chargers’ most glaring weakness is on the backend. Safety Alohi Gilman and corner ja’Sir Taylor got some time last year. They found ways to make plays. We know Derwin James and Asante Samuel Jr. are proven playmakers. Still, the Raiders haven’t spent all that money at receiver, and all those draft picks at tight ends, to lose this matchup.

Rookie TE Brock Bowers was selected high to own the hashes and make contested catches over folks like Derwin James and Henley. They’re also going need TE Michael Mayer to help them too. Mayer can also be a security blanket. Vegas knows Davante Adams can win the one-on-one outside. They know Jakobi Meyers is good for a couple of big plays. However, they need their tight ends to eat on some of the junk plays they hoped Hunter Renfrow would do last year.

Moving to defense, the Raiders will be down Malcolm Koonce. Koonce has dealt with injuries before but this is worse since it is a contract year. The Raiders needed big performances out of him.

Now, back to hoping Tyree Wilson develops ASAP. Wilson and Crosby will draw Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater. Some predict this is one of the best offensive tackle groups around. Crosby is going to have his work cut out for him. The Chargers have had success on the edges versus the Raiders. Wilson needs to play with his hands. It will be a long day as the Chargers will run right at those ends.

Vegas signed Christian Wilkins to get pressure from the middle of the defense. Los Angeles is weak at the center of their offense. Wilkins needs to win at the point of the attack to kill the run and push the pocket. We know the Chargers want to establish the run.

Overall, the Raiders secondary received a lot of praise in camp. The Chargers receivers received the opposite reaction. Rookie receiver Ladd McConkey stole the attention. Receiver Josh Palmer has burned the Raiders before. Receiver Quentin Johnston is a threat on paper. Corners Jack Jones, Jakorian Bennett and Nate Hobbs should win these matchups but big plays happen with Justin Herbert at QB. The Raiders secondary group must be discipline.

An interception from the Raiders safeties and linebackers won’t hurt. Linebacker Robert Spillane started last year as a turnover-machine. Safety Tre’von Moehrig is off his best season as a pro. Safety Marcus Epps is a big earner and linebacker Divine Deablo is finally healthy. The Raiders bet on this group getting better as a collective.

In the end, the Raiders need to establish their identity. Both the Chargers and Raiders are going to try and establish the run. Each team wants to get after the quarterback. Neither team has a proven commodity at RB. The difference is the Raiders got an elite receiver and the Chargers have a top QB. Big plays are going to be the difference but this game is going to start upfront.

Vegas has a chance if they can stop the run and pressure Herbert. Otherwise, they need to get White moving the ball. Get him going earlt and often. The Raiders need to hit on big plays with Adams and Bowers. Make this easy on QB Gardner Minshew. If the Raiders can play their brand of football, there is no reason why SoFi won’t be filled with happy Raiders fans.

Winning this game is key to officially starting the Antonio Pierce era. We all know the statistics as far as interim coaches. Pierce needs to win these close division matchups. He needs to prove he can carry last year’s second-half momentum into this year with a huge win.

Raiders 2024 NFL Draft Preview

The Raiders are in a rare position entering the NFL Draft. Their Free Agency period was a borderline home run. This is the first time in awhile, that the Raiders addressed their most glaring needs in free agency. Vegas is positioned to take the best player available across all rounds of the NFL Draft.

New GM Tom Telesco knows this position well. His Chargers were great at finding value throughout the NFL Draft.

Ultimately, the Raiders offseason has been successful enough for them to be playing with the houses money in the NFL Draft. There’s really only one need the Raiders must address in free agency before they earn a solid A for their offseason.

It would be hard not to give the Raiders an A for the offseason if they land a quarterback and address some of their depth needs.

Free Agency Applause

The Raiders finally got a defensive tackle. Christian Wilkins, one of the best players at his position, is a Raider. We don’t have to dream it, hope it or pray for it.

Wilkins is the type of player that improves every layer of the defense. This sort of signing proves the new front office knows what it is doing. It also proves coaching staff can get players to buy-in. Moreover, it makes one less need for the Raiders to address in the NFL Draft.

Las Vegas made the position even stronger by re-signing defensive linemen John Jenkins and Adam Butler. They’re familiar with Wilkins from time in Miami and they had resurgent years with the Raiders last season. Both players cost lest than three million for this year, which is a steal given the importance of run-stuffers in the modern NFL. Butler and Jenkins give the Raiders a stout and versatile front.

Quarterback?

Now, imagine if the Raiders had a quarterback? Signing Gardner Mishnew wasn’t terrible but does any one think that’s the answer? Even if he is better than Jimmy G., do you want Mishnew starting?

Aiden O’Connell has his ups and downs last year. He too is competent but he doesnt have the upside you want in a division owned by Pat Mahomes and Justin Herbert. That’s why the Raiders must get their quarterback in this draft.

Regardless who the Raiders start at quarterback, they need more weapons all along the offense. They did not exactly address that in Free Agency, so that leaves things open in the NFL Draft.

Breaking down the Rest of Free Agency

Vegas signed veteran RB Alexander Mattison and TE Harrison Bryant. Mattison was poised for a breakout year taking over as starter in Minnesota. However, he was slowly phase out. He’s a solid red zone and depth option but we don’t want hom every down. That’s Zamir’s job to lose to a rookie at least.

Bryant brings experience as a blocking tight end but he also has some upside as a pass catcher. He did well filling in for Njoku over the years. This is probably my favorite signing.

Otherwise, Vegas added veteran Cody Whitehair to the offensive line. The veteran knows the Raiders’ offensive coordinator from their days in Chicago. Whitehair has battled injuries and got phased out of Chicago but he should be an upgrade over Greg Van Roten. I don’t care what PFF says.

Draft Strategy

Vegas also said goodbye to Jermaine Eleumunor. Eleumonor basically played all the positions on the OL during his two seasons with the Silver and Black. He struggled with speed but settled in as a swing tackle and above-average starting right tackle. That is why many mock drafts have the Raiders drafting a tackle high.

Tackle Thayer Munford has improved as a right tackle over the past two seasons. Still, Vegas can move him to guard or keep him as a depth player. Either way, tackle will get real consideration in the NFL Draft based on how the Raiders want to build through the trenches. They believe in the trenches so much they brought back Andre James on an extension.

The Raiders also said goodbye to DB Amik Robertson. Thus, all the rumors connecting Vegas to veteran corners like Xavien Howard and Adoree Jackson. Whether they add one or not, Vegas could very well consider a corner at No. 13 too.

Hunter Renfrow is gone now. Vegas already has his replacement with Tre Tucker on the roster. Yet, can you have too many receivers in the modern NFL? So yeah you can’t really take receiver out of play for the Silver and Black.

Either way, the Raiders adding Wilkins was a home run. The other offseason signings were solid but nothing close to Wilkins. It was such a success that it lifts the tides of the entire roster. That means the Raiders really don’t need to do much more to the roster in terms of free agency.

Get the Guy

Insert the NFL Draft. Many rumors have the Raiders trying to move into the top-5 for a quarterback. At this point, we all know Antonio Pierce has coached Jayden Daniels. There’s also been speculation the Raiders may hold out for JJ McCarthy, Michael Penix or Bo Nix later in the first round or early in the second.

There are varying scenarios where any of the two to six quarterbacks go in the top half of the draft. Vegas may have to move up to even get a chance at one of those guys. None of them might be there at No. 13. However, Penix, McCarthy and Nix might all be there too. No matter, Vegas must get one of those top four quarterbacks. Ideally, it’s Daniels or Penix.

Penix’s value has been every where from the top-five to the second round. There’s a narrative around his health but his medicals keep coming up clean. Penix hasn’t been hurt in two plus seasons. He’s been a gamer since his days with Indiana. Penix ran a crazy forty and he can throw with both arms. The Washington QB was a Heisman candidate and played for a National Championship too.

Vegas can’t pass on Penix at 13. Ideally, they trade back and get him in the twenties or at the top of Day 2. However, what’s the point? He would be the best player available and fill an immediate need at 13. I wouldn’t even be mad if Vegas moved up to get Penix in the top-10. Just get a QB!

Just Get a QB

Of course, Daniels would also be a great pick. However, I am not sold on him due to his size and risks. I know he won the Heisman and can do exceptional things but Penix is more refined right now.

Nix doesn’t do it for me. He had an exceptional year but he still lost to Penix. Nix is also “old” in prospect terms like Penix. Of course, Nix might make sense in the second.

Now, McCarthy did beat Penix in the title game. I’m just worried he is a product of his system and talent around him. It’s easy to see McCarthy just being average to solid as a starter. Yet, there’s buzz around him rising in many NFL Draft circles.

And the Raiders probably won’t get Drake Maye or Caleb Williams since they are both going in the top-three. Still, Williams needs some develop and Maye could be the next UNC quarterback bust. That’s why Penix makes the most sense as far as upside, value and need. Get your silver durags ready.

If Penix is not available at 13, Toledo corner Quinyon Mitchell makes sense. He gets knocked for his level of competiton but he dominated all coverages at the Senior Bowl. He can tackle and take a side of the whole field away.

Other Options at 13

Otherwise, the tackles make the most sense. Oregon St. tackle Taliese Fuaga, Washington Tackle Troy Fautanu and Penn State tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu woull all slate as starters. Of course, Raiders fans have PTSD from all the tackles drafted over the years. Kolton Miller has been the only good one and some knock him for not being truly elite.

Therefore, all signs point to the Raiders doing anything they can to get their quarterback. If that means taking Penix higher than consensus, so be it. If that means moving up to get Penix or Daniels, let it be.

Vegas can find a veteran tackle like Mehki Becton or a veteran corner like Jackson or Howard. They can try to add trench talent in the middle rounds. There should also be some athletic corners with upside worth gambling on in the later rounds. At least on paper, the Raiders have solid depth at those positions.

The Secret Need

Otherwise, the Raiders biggest remaining need is at linebacker. Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo had break out years. Some might say they overachieved. Whatever the case, they did battle injuries. Vegas could use a great athlete like Payton Wilson at linebacker if he’s available in the second round. Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper could slip into the second too. He brings value off the edge and as a backer.

Both could also be gone in the second. Vegas could move back or maybe go Best Player Available in the second. That could bring them back to drafting a tackle, corner or even running back. Texas RB Jonathan Brooks looked like a first rounder before injury. He’d add some explosiveness to a backfield that needs it. FSU DL Braden Fiske also looks like a beast the Raiders can’t pass on in the second.

Still, all things point to the Raiders getting a RB or LB in the later rounds. That’s pretty much been their strategy the last few years. Pierce likes what he has at those positions. He may also just feel more comfortable grooming a guy from the later rounds at those positions

The Verdict

Ultimately, the Raiders could use upgrades throughout their roster. However, they desperately need a QB. Vegas must do whatever they can to get their QB. After that, it’s about stacking up talent throughout the roster. If they hit those marks, there’s no reason why Raiders fans can’t walk out of the offseason feeling confident in the direction of the organization.

Raiders Free Agency 2024

Free Agency begins Monday with the legal tampering period. Signings can become official a few days later on Wednesday. Many of the top free agents will be gone in those first few days. The Raiders absolutely need to knock this free agency out of the park.

Keeping their head coach puts pressure to win now. Double the pressure if the team drafts a quarterback. They might have to use extra picks to get their quarterback and they need to surround the young player with talent.

This guide breakdown the Raiders biggest needs with some of the players available at the position. It’s organized based on how I would prioritize the team needs.

Ultimately, Vegas should have close to $70 million in cap space. They should spend most of that on the trenches. The team should add starters at offensive and defensive line. They should splurge on linebacker. Quarterback and running back should be explored. Secondary and tight end won’t hurt either.

For this first wave, the Raiders absolutely must sign a tier one offensive and defensive line started. A running back and linebacker would be nice but they may not have funds to hit all those notes. Here’s more on how the Raiders should attack free agency.

Defensive Line

The Raiders keep talking about building the franchise upfront first. For years, I’ve been crossing my fingers that the team finally adds a perennial player on the defensive line. That’s even more important give that Jerry Tillery got his walking papers. Here’s a list of targets the Raiders should consider.

The low hanging fruit- Leonard Williams

Seattle is turning over a new leaf on defense and re-signing Williams might not be a priority. Williams has flirted with being a Raider since he entered the league. He also played under current Raiders DC Patrick Graham in New York.

Williams is versatile and would give the Raiders a veteran in the middle. He’s off a down year so the price must be right. Still, he’d upgrade the Raiders pass rush and run defense inside.

Christian Wilkins – The Dream

Chris Jones teased us a bit but Wilkins was always the ideal target. Wilkins had a breakout year with nine sacks. He was already one of the best interior players versus the run. Wilkins would instantly upgrade the Raiders defensive line. It also helps that he is scheme versatile.

The only problem – did you see the money Jones and Justin Madubuike got? That market might be too rich for the Raiders’ blood.

Javon Kinlaw – Upside

It wasn’t that long ago that Kinlaw looked like a can’t miss prospect in the NFL Draft. Kinlaw’s time with the 49ers has been filled with injuries and inconsistency. Still, he had his best season last year with 3.5 sacks in 6 starts and 17 appearances.

Kinlaw is also a big and athletic player with scheme versatility. He’d slate in as a nose tackle with the Raiders. Kinlaw would give the interior group a jolt of athleticism and size. It all depends on the price.

DJ Reader – The Sleeper

We all know the Raiders have a habit of aiming much lower than we anticipate. Still, Reader would be a solid addition to the Raiders defensive line. He doesn’t have the same pass rushing reputation as some of the aforementioned names. However, he’s a stout run defender. Reader is almost 30, has made almost 100 starts and ended last year on IR.

All things considered, Reader should be a bargain versus the other players on this list. We’ve seen the Raiders help veteran free agent nose tackles resurge before. Think about what John Jenkins did last season. Reader could also have a breakout year with the Silver and Black.

Offensive Line

We keep hearing how the Raiders want to build from the trenches. The Raiders offensive line needs work regardless who plays quarterback or running back. Rumors already surfaced about them talking to offensive linemen at the NFL Combine.

Either way, the Raiders should look to add 1-2 starting caliber offensive linemen ahead of the draft. Of course, the squad may consider bringing back Andre James at center and Jermaine Eleumunor at tackle. Both were steady starters worthy of another contract.

However, I’ve always thought Dylan Parham is best suited at center. Eleumunor has shown his value at guard and tackle. He’s battled through injuries too. However, it might be time for Eleumunor to move on for money. Here’s some ways the Raiders can strengthen the offensive line.

Tyron Smith

Smith is the biggest free agent name at the tackle position. He hasn’t played a full season since 2016. Last season, he started in 13 games and made the second team All-Pro. Smith played last year on a bargain so it’s unclear if he’ll do that again. The California native might like moving closer to home by playing in Vegas. Either way, Smith would have to switch sides or make Kolton Miller switch sides. Regardless, he’d finally solidify the tackle position.

Damien Lewis

Lewis has been one of my favorite players since he entered the league. He’s got the power to help in the run game. Lewis also has the agility to help with the pass and the zone scheme. He could play both guard spots and that gives the Raiders flexibility with bringing back Andre James. They could also move Dylan Parham to guard. Lewis is looking for his first payday so the Raiders may easily get outbid for his services.

Lloyd Cushenberry

Cushenberry also offers a lot of scheme versatility. It feels like the Broncos have too many issues to let Cushenberry go. Nonetheless, he’d be a great replacement for James. He might also be able to move to guard if necessary. The only issue is Cushenberry might have a robust market as one of the best centers in free agency.

Mike Onwenu

Onwenwu is a bit undersized for tackle. He’s played all over the line in New England. Spotrac has him at market value over $13 million. That might be too much for the Raiders, particularly if they splurge at other positions. Regardless, he’d be the guard and tackle tweener that replaces Jermaine Eleumuner. Still, Onwenu

Robert Hunt

Keeping with the theme of versatility, Hunt is another offensive lineman with versatility hitting the open market. Hunt is a bit bigger than Onwenu. He also missed some time with injury. Hunt is just under age 28. The Dolphins can’t pay all their free agents so Hunt seems like a logical target if the Raiders want to solidify their front.

Connor Williams

Williams is another Dolphins free agent. Williams also battled injury but offers versatility. He has played mainly guard over his career. However, he has the size to play tackle. Williams is about to be 27 so he still has some upside if the Raiders lock him into a fair contract.

Jonah Williams

Williams has as much upside as any one in this free agency class. The California native is 27 years old. It feels like he finally found himself on the right side last season. Although, he came into the league insisting he was a left tackle. If the price is right and he wants to play tackle, the Raiders could really use him as an upgrade on the right side.

Isaiah Wynn

Wynn joined the Dolphins in the middle season. He actually had a bounce back year. Wynn offers experience along the entire offensive line. He’s under 30 and might be looking for one more prove-it deal. The Raiders may shy away since they could’ve signed him last year. Nonetheless, Wynn could be a solid depth piece.

Aaron Brewer

Brewer is another player who might slip through the cracks. The Titans seem headed for a rebuild and there are a few players that might get more attention on the open market. He’s started the last two seasons. Brewer has experience playing both guard and center. He’d be an upgrade at either position for the Silver and Black.

Andrus Peat

Peat isn’t the same Pro Bowler he was before 2020. However, he’s still a big guard who could solidify the left guard spot. He could also be a great backup swing tackle or start at right tackle. The 30-year-old could be a great bargain. New Orleans has their own cap issues too. Still, Vegas might prioritize other options.

Cody Whitehair

Here’s another one that probably makes too much sense to happen. Whitehair is almost 32. He was released earlier this offseason, which means the Raiders could have already signed him. Whitehair has experience along all three interior line positions. He’d bring a veteran presence at a bargain. Whitehair would probably make sense at left guard. I think they will wait until they’ve exhausted other options.

Running Back

Once again, the Raiders need to figure out what they got going on in the backfield. After they settle the trenches, it’s time to explore what the open market brings at running back.

Honestly, I’d say Josh Jacobs is gone. Raiders Twitter points to Antonio Pierce returning as hope he will return, but what has stopped him from already signing a deal?

Jacobs battled injuries and took a stepback. Vegas filled the void with Zamir White. They can easily draft another mid-round rookie and add a veteran guy at back.

Saquon Barkley is one name that keeps popping up. His explosive athleticism makes him an upgrade over Jacobs. He might also be a bit more expensive.

Regardless, the Raiders shouldn’t prioritize signing any other running back besides Barkley. If they do end up going with a more cost effective option, Gus Edwards or AJ Dillon could add some physicality to their red zone game. They’re on the right side of 30.

Zeke Elliott had a solid year finding the end zone with the Patriots last year. He’s versatile an could bring a great veteran presence to the group.

Derek Henry could also be a solid option. However, he has some miles on him. He’ll probably look at a more obvious contender.

D’Andre Swift and Zack Moss could also make sense. Both had better seasons than the year prior. You’d think their teams would bring them back but they also played in crowded backfields. Swift is shifty and versatile. Moss is more physical.

JK Dobbins and Cam Akers had upside. They also have some injuries. The Raiders should stay away.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire would’ve made sense as a swiss army knife. He too was once a first round pick. He knows the division well too. Unfortunately, I think they will look for a bigger back since they signed Ameer Abdullah.

As for Tony Pollard, Pollard had a better season than some of the other running backs on a one-year deal last year. He should return to Dallas. Either way, he’s going to cost some bread.

Just say no to Austin Ekeler.

Linebacker

Other than running back or defensive line, the Raiders should splurge at linebacker. You might say Divine Deablo and Robert Spillane both played well last year. Why do the Raiders need a linebacker?

Well, both battled injuries. Therefore, the Raiders could use some depth. Both overperformed… Now, imagine if they got a player with more talent and upside. That’s exactly why the Raiders should splurge on a linebacker like Devin White or Patrick Queen. Adding a high end linebacker might help the Raiders actually cover tight ends. That would help the safeties on the roster too. It also gives them some more flexibility with the aforementioned backers on the roster. Queen or White could also help the run defense.

Neither will come cheap but White should come cheaper. He had a falling out with Tampa Bay that resulted in them benching him. The Ravens have invested a lot in the defense so Queen might slip through the cracks. Again, both will be expensive based on Tremaine Edmunds.

Frankie Luvu is another player topping free agency lists and Raiders’ Twitter. Luvu has 12.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles over the last two years as a starter. He’s also under 30, which means he too might cash out in the first round of free agency.

Lavonte David could also be an affordable option. He’s over 30 but he has also had over 80 solo tackles and five passes defensed the past two seasons. David could bring a great veteran presence to boost the Raiders’ front-seven.

Otherwise, Kenneth Murray is low-risk and high-reward signing. He knows the current Raiders GM, since Tom Telesco drafted him.

Akeem Davis-Gaither is another affordable option. Gaither was mostly a depth piece in Cincinnati. But he’s got range and speed. Gaither could also do well on special teams.

Azeez Al-Shaair is another solid budget option. He had some injuries over the last two years. However, he is a good run stuffer as well.

Quarterback

Look, you know the quarterback situation. Yes, Vegas should add a veteran. Even if they draft a QB at the top of the draft, they need insurance. Look at the injuries they had last year.

Russell Wilson has been in the rumors since Vegas won’t have to pay him much. Imagine a residency for Ciara in Vegas? Wilson has a Super Bowl ring and he hates the Broncos.

Ryan Tannehill is another veteran option on the market. He’s too much like Derek Carr for my taste, but Tannehill has had success in the playoffs.

Baker Mayfield could be a great fit. He pushes the ball down the field and he is mobile. Unfortunately, he may be the most expensive option on the open market.

Kirk Cousins could also set the QB market. Cousins has been paid before. He had injuries last year but it seems like Minnesota wants to run it back with him.

Gardner Minshew had one of his best seasons a year ago. He still takes too many sacks and he’s not the most accurate. Vegas should stay away unless he is cheap or there are no other veteran options.

Forget all that, the Raiders should sign Jameis Winston. Winston isn’t afraid to push the ball down the field. He’s been a No. 1 pick so he can mentor a rookie. Winston has been applauded as a leader, competitor and locker room presence. Vegas would be smart to add him as a bridge guy.

Edge

Finally, we arrive at edge rusher. Vegas should add an edge as their pass rush overachieved last year. They’re still paying Chandler Jones. Tyree Wilson is still developing and he may fit better inside. Adding another rusher might make sense to give Wilson some relief. There’s also some good talent on the edge market. Yet, it’s not a priority given how Malcolm Koonce played last year. Here’s some edge talent.

Danielle Hunter is one of the best pass rushers in his generation. Adding him across from Maxx Crosby is a dream.

Michael Danna is a versatile lineman. He knows the division well. Kansas City can’t pay every player.

Josh Uche could also make sense. I just think the Patriots will prioritize him given his versatility and their lack of a pass rush. Then again, they’ve mostly had him on the bench the past few seasons.

Bryce Huff benefited from a great pass rush with the Jets. He could do that again with the Raiders.

Chase Young has tremendous upside. It wasn’t that long ago that he was drafted atop his class.

K’Lavon Chaisson is another one with great upside. He’s under 25. Chaisson could add some talent and upside to the pass rush.

Secondary

And then there is the secondary. There’s a lot of talk about the big names available at safety and corner. Personally, the Raiders backend played better than we expected.

Corner Adoree Jackson or safety Xavier McKinney both make sense for the Raiders due to their ties to the Raiders’ defensive coordinator.

Rumors say they’ll pursue Kendall Fuller heavily at corner. Otherwise, Jamal Adams, Justin Simmons, Eddie Jackson, Quandre Diggs, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Chuck Clark and Kevin Byard are big names available at safety. They’re all versatile and could push the Raiders’ starting safeties.

CJ Henderson or Jeff Okudah were once prize gems in the NFL Draft. Both might be worth a flyer. Best case they become outside corners, worst case they’re a depth piece.

Mike Davis is a corner Telasco knows from the Chargers too. He should be a bargain.

Sean Bunting made himself some money with a great season last year. He had a good year with the Titans and may look to cash out.

Kenny Moore or Stephon Gilmore could also provide an upgrade. Gilmore on the outside and Moore in the slot.

Nonetheless, the Raiders probably should not prioritize the secondary. It’s going to cost them, they have talent on the roster and they can find talent at safety or corner through the NFL Draft.

Tight End

Continuing with the nice to have category, we have a second tight end. The Raiders drafted a tight end last year but they could use a pass catching option. Noah Fant and Gerald Everett are two players I like as cheap Darren Walker replacements. Otherwise, this tight end class is deep. They can wait til after the draft to sign someone here.

Ending the Season on a High Note

The Raiders had a lot to play for last week. Put it on the refs or whatever. Either way, the team lost and their playoffs hopes went down the drain too.

Indianapolis is a tough team with a good mix of youth and talent. They went through their own adversity this year but still found themselves in the playoff hunt until last night.

Vegas didn’t get the same production out of Zamir White in the run game. Give some credit to the Colts’ front seven. DeForesr Buckner was a problem versus the run and pass. The Silver and Black did get the ball to Davante Adams. They also spread it around to Jakobi Meyers and Zamir White. Both had five plus catches.

The Raiders won the time possession but didn’t force a turnover. They also got only one sack. None of the edges got home.

That has to change versus a familiar foe. Vegas began their season with a close win over the Broncos. Now, they play Denver at home with former Raiders QB Jared Stidham making the start. Denver benched Russell Wilson for financial reasons, which may also land them in court. That’s another story. Either way, Vegas needs to get pressure on the QB and force him into mistakes.

The Silver and Black will also be tested against the run. Javonte Williams hasn’t been great this year in terms of yards or touchdowns. However, he’s a big back who can break tackles and catch the ball out of the backfield. Vegas can’t let him end the year with a breakout game, especially since they’ll be without starting receiver Courtland Sutton again.

Ultimately, the Broncos secondary offers household names with Justin Simmons and Pat Surtain. Adams is not going to have the same kind of game. They’re also banged up at tackle with Thayer Munford out as well as Kolton Miller and Jermaine Eluemunor battling injuries all season. Therefore, it’s going to be on Zamir White to make some plays as he is expected to start for Josh Jacobs again. This is White’s audition for the starting role next year. A big game here makes it tough to keep Jacobs or sign another starter in the backfield.

Speaking of auditions, Antonio Pierce is still trying to earn his keep. Reports say the Raiders let their assistants look for new jobs. That may or may not indicate Pierce returns. Either way, it feels like they will go through a bigger higher if process rather than just giving it to Pierce.

John Harbaugh and yes Jon Gruden are the other names. Harbaugh will be the hottest name on the market given his standing with Michigan. If he brings home a title in spite of an earlier suspension, an NFL team will definitely give him a king’s ransom. Gruden should be done and never coach again given his lack of success in his second stint and those emails. I get he is a friend of Mark Davis but that doesn’t mean he deserves to be on a sideline right now. If anything keep him as an advisor.

Win or lose, Pierce has proven he is a leader of men. Many Raiders legends have bought into him given how he has the defense inspired. The whole team is playing with swagger. It’s hard to bet against him given how he beat the Chargers and Chiefs. It’s also hard to just give him the keys given how they lost to Indianapolis and Minnesota in crucial spots.

Current players have also gone on record saying they want Pierce. Unfortunately, that only means so much since many players might not even be around next year. That’s like asking students if they want to keep their favorite substitute. Pierce deserves credit for steadying the ship when the Raiders needed it most. However, he has to sell the organization that he can hire the right offensive staff, develop a quarterback and build an identity over the next 3-10 years.

Pierce will definitely be coveted for defensive coordinator jobs and college football head coaching gigs even if the Raiders don’t hire him. However, he has to close this year out with a big win over the Donkeys to make him the favorite. It’s hard to not hire him if the key players like Adams and Crosby continue to play well, despite nothing but pride and their head coach’s future to play for.

In the end, the Raiders need to run the ball and stop the run. A high scoring out will be surprising given the strength of these defenses and the lack of elite quarterback play. Therefore, the team that can commit the most big plays and force the most turnovers should secure the win. Vegas needs their defense to get more than one sack and force a turnover. They can’t let the Broncos get their first win in Vegas, nor can they finish below them in the AFC West standings. Regardless, the Raiders need to Just Win Baby!

Plus, I’m in Vegas and going to Allegiant for the first time. I really want to see a win but I’m talking shit no matter what.
